Internet
Businesses

The
internet is a global system of inter connected computer
networks and it has revolutionised the way we work,
the way we shop and the way we spend our free time.
The amount of business conducted on the internet is
increasing rapidly each year. Every business in the
real world now has a presence in the virtual one.
The internet has changed the way that business is conducted.
The internet has the benefits of low cost advertising
and commerce resulting in reduced overheads and higher
profit margins. It enables the efficient spreading of
information and instant communications.
The internet has also changed the way that we shop.
Anything that is available in the real world is available
online at the click of a button. Holidays can be booked,
hotel rooms reserved all at the click of a switch in
effect cutting out the middleman resulting in cheaper
prices. The success of web sites such as Amazon and
E-Bay prove the popularity of shopping on the internet.
Problems that have resulted from the large amounts of
business and shopping done on the internet are the increased
rates of piracy of music and software on file sharing
websites. Fraud and identity theft are still a problem
for the unprotected and the unwary. Spam is still a
major problem.
The influence of the internet is set to grow as more
countries install high speed broadband and fibre optic
networks. The amount of business done on the internet
has increased every year and looks set to keep on increasing
due to the low cost of E-commerce.
